Dupont State Forest - "The Land of Waterfalls"

So our freinds told us to make it to this area known as "The Land of Waterfalls" in Dupont State Forest and we are so excited we listened! Just a breathtaking, beautiful area.

Cool facts! If you are into the Hunger Games, Triple Falls is where it's at! The scene where she finds Peta :) (Triple falls) Or if you are a fan of "The last of the Mohicans" you'll find this scene cool too ! (a combination of a few different falls)

The Trails:

Hooker Falls: Hooker Falls Trail is a 0.7 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Penrose, North Carolina. Easy to get to. Great for all skill levels.

Triple Falls:

Triple Falls Trail is a 2.9 mile heavily trafficked loop trail Great for most skill levels. Very steep for a bit but our 5 year old did it! Clearly, our 3 year old didn't make it far :)

High Falls: High Falls and Triple Falls Tour is a 3.3 mile heavily trafficked loop trail featuring a waterfall of course! We saw some bikers on this trail but mostly used for hiking. We would stay it's pretty steep for kiddos but our 5 year old did it! Let's do it all! Here is how to hit all of the above trails:

You can see the three falls on the same trail. Start is from the Hooker Falls Access Area parking lot. The entrance to the Hooker Falls Trail is near the signboard. This wide trail goes to the left through hardwood forest for about .25 mile. With only a 12-foot drop, Hooker Falls is just so beautiful.

To move on from Hooker Falls to Triple Falls, head back the way you came in and walk over the bridge, which passes under the highway bridge. The Triple Falls trail will feel steep, with a 120-foot elevation gain. You’ll walk along a river to the base of the falls (about .3 mile). If you continue about .2 miles you'll overlook the falls. You’re in the middle of the 120-foot total drop of Triple Falls.

Continue .25 to the High Falls! Before you take the stairs down the rocks, head over to High Falls. Stop for an overview at the top of the high falls and take the trail "River bend" to go down to the bottom. You'll love it down here and a few less people You can get right under the falls!
