Flying into Mexico is so beautiful to see from the plane. The blue water will take your breath away! Check out our blog on Scotts Cheap Flights to find the best deals!
Highly recommend knowing some of the language. A wonderful resource to learn right along with your kids is, TalkBox.Mom !
Once we got there we got our rental car. If you are not getting the insurance, highly suggest taking many pictures of the car before you take it off the lot as well as time stamping it! This will help when you return it, as they tried to blame some scratches on us. We made out fine because of the pictures :)
Stays:
We got a good deal from Hotwire and stayed at a beautiful Holiday Inn. They had a nice courtyard pool and free delicious breakfast every morning. It wasn’t a five star resort by any stretch, but our goal was to see the city and adventure so we didn’t mind!
Markets: Be sure and just stroll around. Engaging gin the culture can be half the fun. We found amazing taco stands and even got our hair braided in.
Food:
There is amazing restaurants on every corner. We found the perfect sit down Mexican restaurant that had the best drinks and food, so had to go there at least three times during the week.
Taco stands - don’t hold back! This could be some of the best tacos you’ve ever tasted.
On the Island (see below) - When we go on the Island we found this place and it was, melt in your mouth food! You’ll want to point at someones food if you don't speak Spanish, or learn some Spanish and you’ll be all set! Use Talkbox Mom to learn with your kids :)
Where to adventure:
We loved the markets as mentioned above and then we took a couple days to visit the Island.
Isla Mujeres - Take a ferry over to the island for the day! It has beautiful beaches as well as the most fun shops. We also found a couple cabanas to rest and relax in.
Rent a moped! Once on the island they have the coolest looking mopeds all colorful. Making those gram pictures totally on point:)
Gran Cenote:
This isn’t your average adventure! This place is truly an amazing experience. Climb down in and not only swim, but cliff jump in as well! Be sure you don’t have a fear of fish as they will be swimming right beside you. There is also an area you can swim in, if you choose not to cliff jump. - Another cool thing about this place is there showers to rinse off and changing rooms and even lockers! See tickets here for the water hole.
While this was totally worth every minute. It has really become quite taken over with people selling you things. If you can get away from the crowds and read the signs, the history is absolutely a beautiful thing to experience. You can also take guided tours! We were all about taking or own time and reading, but the tour may be fun, especially with kids.
We hit up the local town to toured around. The local churches, older buildings and kind people add to the experience.Renting your own car is nice so you can go at your own speed but there are also tour busses you can take to hit up most of these locations:
See Tours for above adventures Here!
Random”Lovers Chair” actually Conversation Chair: We didn’t know about the history of theses until we got back and researched it... here ya go :) The History!
